Shiva Shankar was a dance choreographer cum actor born and brought up in Chennai. He was born on 7th December , to Kalyanasundaram and Komala Ammal. Kalyanasundaram was doing the wholesale fruits business in Kothawal Chawadi in Chennai. When he was a child, Shivashankar had a severe injury in his backbone due to an accident, and he recovered from that when he was eight.

He sent Shivashankar to get his dance training under the tutelage of Natraj and Sakunthala in Mylapore. Shivashankar joined the film industry in as an assistant to Saleem, a famous dance master. Paattum Bharathamum was his first film as an assistant dance master. It released in He made his debut as a solo dance master in in Kuruvikoodu. He saw his last movie in , Climax, as an actor.

Five of his movies were released from to after his death. Shivashankar died on 28th November in a private hospital in Hyderabad while getting treatment for Covid
